Tarun Tahiliani: Pieces Of You

Earlier this year, renowned designer Tarun Tahiliani, celebrated 25 glorious years of his eponymous label with a lavish celebration. Paying homage to his decades-long design legacy and reflecting on his creative vision of the past two-and-a-half decades, on July 16, the designer launched his Autumn/Winter 2020 Bridal & Festive wear collection titled ‘Pieces Of You’.  

In Tarun’s words, “This collection is a reflection of pieces of my thoughts over the last 25 years. A myriad of techniques, drapes and fabrics have been pieced together over a quarter of a century. When you build something, it is done piece by piece. Whether it’s a partnership, a wedding, or a couture outfit. “

Seamlessly adapting to ‘The New Normal’ and living up to the status of being a pioneer in the Indian Fashion Industry, Tarun Tahiliani Men once again managed to reinvent the wheel with a digital fashion show to present the collection.

“In spite of this dreadful pandemic which is galloping on us, we have decided the show must go on. Craft, fashion, life must go on”, said Tarun Tahiliani.

Featuring opulent embellishments & his signature embroidery techniques from 25 years of archives, the collection celebrated Indian aesthetics and showcased artisanal techniques, while still appealing to the modern sensibility. We saw statement brocades, beautiful silk thread embroidery, delicate Chikankari designs and sprinklings of Swarovski crystals throughout the collection.

For where Tahiliani’s heart lies, the show opened with artfully pre-draped sarees in a myriad of hues from brights to metallics. Considering the circumstances of the world the collection also featured lightweight embroidered lehengas and anarkalis, appealing to the modern bride & perfect for intimate celebrations. The menswear was understated yet sartorial and complemented the womenswear brilliantly. The collection also featured pieces inspired by his previous iconic & most-loved styles. From sarees & lehengas to jumpsuits & jackets, the collection featured over 100 ensembles.

Innovating with a digitised format of presentation and responding to the evolving consumer sentiment, the show gave front-row access to everyone with a live stream on the designers Instagram account.

The concept of the collection in its core was to have people relate. In a statement, Tarun said “Questions, stories, memories, dreams–so many hidden parts of us are now coming to the fore. So with the onset of the new season, it feels like the only thing to celebrate now, is You.” From design to presentation, the collection did absolute justice.
