To begin the summer wedding season on the right note, Bhumika Grover launched her SS ’19 collection at Pernia’s Pop-Up Studio’s flagship store, Thursday, 4th April! We caught up with her to learn about her inspiration, creative process and her favourite travel destination.
When asked about her journey, she says “I always had a creative mindset and I studied interior designing, so had a foundation in creating. My mother was a textile designer, so we started designing collections and we participated in quite a few exhibitions across Delhi and Bombay. I finally opened my first store in Delhi and that was 10 years!”
Taking notes from the rich decadence of India’s princely states and celebrating the Poetic grace of the bygone era, the collection titled ‘Summer Brides’ is aimed at the modern Indian bride. Featuring the best of Indian regal silhouettes in a contemporary avatar and customized in a bold and bright colour palette, the collection presents a classic flavour for destination weddings. “I’m very biased towards classic Indian weaves. My goal is to create pieces that someone can wear even after two years. As a brand, we believe in understated and fuss-free glam in all its glory!”
With an eclectic range of premium couture bridal trousseau and fusion Indian ensembles. there’s a variety of ensembles to choose from; not just for the bride but for her bridesmaids as well. Talking about the collection, Grover said “The focus for this collection were summer brides and destination weddings. It’s fresh, flowy and vibrant just like our Indian summers. While adding bling, I had a minimalistic approach making sure it’s elegant yet comfortable for destinations. The collection is designed for girls in a conquest to find the perfect lightweight ensemble for destination weddings!”
What is your creative process from inspiration to the final product?
“I don’t have a schedule or a dedicated time I sit down and work. I am always inspired by my travels! But inspiration can hit me at any moment, even when I’m sleeping. There are times I’ll get an idea while I’m sleeping and I wake up, put it on paper and then production.”
What is your favourite destination to travel?
“Greece!”
What is your advice for young designers?
“Follow your dreams and don’t give up! If you keep on going- god listens.”
Amongst much fanfare, bloggers, fashion connoisseurs and celebrities including Amyra Dastur, Sana Kapoor, Asha Bhatt & Chahat Khanna graced the occasion to get the first look of the collection. The collection will be available to shop exclusively at Pernia’s Pop-Up Shop online and its stores.
