Known for beautiful prints and intricate embroider, Ridhi Mehra once again stole a million hearts with her latest collection ‘An ode to Heirlooms‘. Exploring her roots and reflecting on her family’s cultural duality, she staged a personal yet extremely powerful presentation at Lakme Fashion Week W/F ’19. While uniquely showcasing the rich culture and beautiful aesthetics of India, the collection has an interesting contemporary twist to it that seamlessly lends the signature Ridhi Mehra touch. Diana Penty played Ridhi Mehra’s Muse and walked down the runway in a gorgeous ivory lehenga that was intricately embroidered and embellished with sequins.
We got a chance to speak to her just after her show and she revealed what the collection means to her. “The collection is inspired by family heirlooms. We’ve taken influence from Kashmiri pashmina shawls and aari embroidered and incorporated that into Gujarati patola textile patterns. We’ve also done a lot of Ikat prints and given them a twist with a bohemian touch. It’s an amalgamation of two cultures and an opulent take on the rich tradition of India. Also, maintaining the luxury of our brand we have come out with the new versions of our ornate belts. So that’s exciting!”
With her eponymous label, Ridhi Mehra is constantly pushing boundaries of Indian luxury fashion. She has mastered the art of reinventing design ideas by blending western aesthetics with traditional elements.
On maintaining a synergy between her signature style and innovation, Ridhi Mehra says, “Your signature style is within you! No matter what you do, it doesn’t change! My inspiration changes every season but my style remains the same. That comes across through every piece very naturally, so one will always be able to tell a Ridhi Mehra outfit.”
