Everyone’s childhood favourite, Mickey Mouse, got an edgy transformation in Kanika Goyal Label and Disney’s latest collaboration. Titled “A Dream That Dreamed Itself,” the expansive 114-piece capsule bridges Goyal’s distinctly Indian lens and the dreamy nostalgia associated with the beloved character.
Using upcycled denim and hand embroidery to paint the story, the surrealist collection is a reflection of what’s common between the two brands’ DNA: a young, playful edge. Drawing inspiration from her travels and the diverse cultures she has experienced over the years, Kanika Goyal’s collaboration with Disney is a confluence of the designer’s childhood memories, Disney’s legacy, and KGL’s experimental design language.
The collection features crew neck jumpers, graphic t-shirts, embellished skirts, dresses, and accessories doused in traditional motifs like paisleys, lungi checks, and temple architecture. Deconstructed tailoring, upcycled denim, hand embroidery and layered textures amalgamation with a serving of loud hues, bold graphics, and tons of nostalgia – what’s not to love?
