Identity wrapped in fashion

In the world of art, fashion’s role has often been abstract; but it has a very special power. A constant in the world of visual communication, when words fail, the power of fashion can sometimes be the only outlet of expression. Mirroring the status of the world, the economy, and the culture that surrounds us, fashion is fundamental to identity and creates a sense of belonging. And that’s what draws most of us into this world- the curiosity to learn and understand how different people use fashion to make a statement and the ability to practice the art.

Beautiful clothes straight off the runway, perfectly starched with no flaws is always admired. The fashion-obsessed are often captivated with glossy magazines, perfectly edited Instagram pictures and the glitz and glamour of the Industry. Adorning ourselves in pretty clothes makes us feel good about ourselves and lifts our spirits. But that’s not all. Fashion and style are much more than that. It really is a means of expression and has immense transformative powers. By pushing the boundaries either through creating or by accepting the designs in a physical and emotional space, one can transcend the binary.

At times, we fail to challenge the image created by society and we miss out on looking at fashions artistic expression and its power beyond the confines. Sometimes, fashion is all we have to illustrate our identity, our thoughts and our ideologies. It’s the intimate relationship we share with clothing that becomes an extension and reflection of ourselves. Style becomes a catalyst to explore our deeper sense, has the ability to reflect our personality and in some ways, the way we dress also manifests our life experiences.

The clothes we wear tell many stories! An outfit can instantly put into perspective how one feels and can say things that can’t be put into words. At the end of the three-month fashion cycles, the trends declared, and the favourites of influencers, we are left with curations designed with hard work, to make our own decision. For us, it is to be entangled with the visionary and great minds who reflect on the world and give us artistic creations embedded in culture and passion; that becomes our identity and an integral part of our lives. This is a love letter to fashion for making us who we are!
In the words on Diana Vreeland- “You gotta have style. It helps you get down the stairs. It helps you get up in the morning. It’s a way of life. Without it, you’re nobody.”
