From being invited to the 75th Cannes Film Festival in 2022 to being a part of the London Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2023, Renu Oberoi Luxury Jewellery has been making waves globally. Here, the designer talks hues, shapes, and trends for those seeking to savour precious pieces.
“Post-pandemic trends for jewellery have shifted as people are looking for mood-lifting pieces. They are more inclined towards coloured gemstones. We might see a rise in the pink-red palette given Pantone’s colour of the year for 2023, Viva Magenta.”
RENU OBEROI
Elevating bridal and couture jewellery to the realm of art is Renu Oberoi, whose repertoire includes dainty bracelets, small studs, chandelier earrings-each dipped in the scintillating elegance synonymous with Renu Oberoi Luxury Jewellery.
Marking a milestone in the brand’s luminous journey, Renu Oberoi Luxury Jewellery opened its flagship outpost in one of the most elite precincts of Mumbai, nestled within the iconic queen’s necklace, in 2022. Having worked closely with Zaki Shaikh of Parthenon Architects, the store reverberates with the jewellery house’s refined aesthetic. With a strong foothold in the Indian market, the brand is now making a splash in the international arena. Here, the designer takes us through the idioms and symbolism of her design language, even as she spells the rule of Instagram-worthy bejewelled summer looks.

FL: What are some of the highlights of your design journey?
RO: Although my design journey started more than a decade ago, one of the biggest milestones, which really solidified the brand, was the opening of our flagship boutique in one of the most iconic locations of Mumbai-Nariman Point. The brand has managed to accomplish a lot in a relatively short span of time. From being invited to the 75th Cannes Film Festival in 2022 to being a part of the London Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2023, the brand has come a long way. We have already had a strong foothold in the Indian market, and now we are taking leaps to expand our footprints in international markets.
FL: How does hailing from a corporate background give a different edge and versatility to your designs?
RO: The Renu Oberoi Luxury Jewellery designs are versatile. From our minimal and elegant pret collections to the statement pieces and high-jewellery collections, they can be styled and incorporated into daily wear. Craftsmanship and originality are key behind every piece. We strongly believe in making wearable jewellery-something durable, which you can style endlessly and do not have to be locked inside your safes. Using superior-quality diamonds and coloured gemstones, the collections reflect the artistic and fanciful temperament that reign supreme in the design books.
FL: What is your design language when it comes to creating eternal and chic pieces?
RO: We have expanded our vision to achieve a distinctive global aesthetic in every Renu Oberoi piece. We believe in creating eye-catching silhouettes with diamonds and coloured gemstones. Our primary design language is to create lightweight yet “high-design” pieces that are visually stunning. The USP is that they are easily wearable and always enjoyable.
FL: If you had to style a summer jewellery look across day-wear and evening-wear for a work event, lunch date, casual day-out and evening hangout, how would you go about it?
RO: Summers are always a very joyful, carefree time, so minimal pieces with understated glamour work best. Stackable bracelets, rings and a pair of stud earrings are very much in vogue for summer outfits-whether you pair them with your office formals or a breezy sundress for lunch.
Jewellery for evening-wear can be more assertive. A pair of diamond hoops, ear cuffs or the layered look of long chain necklaces exude comfortable elegance.
FL: If you had to style summer jewellery looks for a radiant day wedding as well a more elaborate evening function, how would you let it transition?
RO: For weddings, day or night, everyone is looking for mood-elevating pieces in emeralds, coloured sapphires, rubies etc. People tend to opt for pastels and lighter hues for day weddings. You can pair your outfit with chic and elegant chokers or wrap-around collars with matching bracelets or rings.
For evening functions like a sangeet or cocktail parties, which are often more glamorous, you can transition to more stand-out pieces like a prominent pair of earrings or a stunning suite in rubies or emeralds, depending on your outfit.
FL: What are some of the summer must-haves when it comes to creating a minimal yet glamorous look?
RO: Layered necklaces, minimal and stackable rings and bracelets. A Cuban chain necklace with matching earrings or bracelet is desirable.
FL: What are some of the jewellery shapes and palettes that will dominate the summer trend books including special occasions?
RO: Post-pandemic trends for jewellery have shifted as people are looking for mood-lifting pieces. They are more inclined towards coloured gemstones. We might see a rise in the pink-red palette given Pantone’s colour of the year for 2023, Viva Magenta.
